Thanks for coming to my website! I'm a journalist who works across the fields of television, online video and writing, and documentary.
Currently I am a host, producer and staff writer for Salon as well as the host of "Trade Ideas" for Real Vision TV. I've also done original feature reporting and video for outlets such as The Nation, Mic, Attn, and Splinter. I was the lead political host for HuffPost Live, for which I covered the 2016 election, hosted in studio shows like "Political Junkies" and "Free Speech Zone", and produced and hosted documentary and short form videos. The online streaming network won three consecutive Webbys for Best News and Information Channel during my time there.
In 2011, I made the Forbes 30 under 30 media list. In 2014, I was the host of a Gracie winning special on victims of mass shootings and was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Digital Journalism in coverage of bisexual activists holding a first ever forum at the White House.
Prior to HuffPost Live, I hosted "The Alyona Show" on RT America, which premiered when I was only 23 years old.
My work focuses on a broad range of topics including domestic politics, foreign policy, US-Russian relations, national security, civil liberties and gender equality, among others. Throughout my career, I've interviewed some of the world's most influential and controversial figures, including Senator Bernie Sanders, President Jimmy Carter, General Stanley McChrystal, Julian Assange, Paul Krugman, and many others. I've also interviewed a long list of celebrities and musicians.
In the field, I've covered the 2016 election, Russian politics, immigration on the US-Mexican border, environmental devastation, the opioid epidemic and international events such as the Vancouver and Sochi Olympics, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and the G20.
I've been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, Details, Forbes, and others. I've also appeared on MSNBC, CNN, FOX News, Comedy Central, and Fusion.
I was born in Moscow, and am a fluent Russian speaker. I go to the country often for reporting assignments and to visit my family. My mother is Olympic figure skating champion and current Russian legislator Irina Rodnina.
I'm a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz where I studied politics and film and digital media.
I currently live in New York.
